Introduction
Within the State of Texas, a total of four (4) national forest zones are included, obviously on the eastern side of the State in which more humidity is typical. For each national forest, a distinct story is told about the State as a whole, with every particular regional divide representing cultural distinctions as well as geographic and potentially natural distinctions.
National Forests
Within the State of Texas, the national forests are named Sam Houston, Angelina, Davy Crockett, and Sabine. Each national forest is within relative proximity to the State of Louisiana and is similarly humid in natural form.

National Grasslands
Situated to the north and west of the dominant national forest areas are the two (2) national grasslands associated with the State by way of the Southern Great Plains. Within the Great Plains region, the Caddo and Lyndon B. Johnson National Grasslands continue to honor the historic heritage of the region directly south of the Red River and Oklahoma.
Counties
For the national grasslands, Caddo is entirely within Fannin County, while Lyndon B. Johnson is situated within parts of Wise and Montague Counties nearer Fort Worth.
The National Forest units are situated within distinctive counties in East Texas, especially in the region occasionally known as Far East Texas. At the eastern end of the State are the highest humidity levels, often exceeding typical humidity levels situated to the west of the immediate area. For each national forest individually, however, topographic differences are often culturally significant where such differences exist. In the case of the State of Texas, the forests are Sam Houston, Angelina, Davy Crockett, and Sabine.
Sam Houston National Forest is situated within parts of San Jacinto, Walker, and Montgomery Counties, with each and every county involved playing a large role in the historical context beginning near the eastern edge of the State. Nearby, the Angelina National Forest is associated with San Augustine, Angelina, Jasper, and Nacogdoches Counties, each situated somewhat to the east and thus nearer the Louisiana state line. Within the Kennard area and Houston County, the Davy Crockett National Forest represents yet another significant area near the western edge of longleaf pine, loblolly, and shortleaf pine areas within the State, while the Sabine National Forest covers portions of five (5) distinct counties, namely Sabine, Shelby, San Augustine, Newton, and Jasper.
