NASA’s Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope team has successfully activated the Wide Field Instrument, a 300-megapixel infrared camera that will allow scientistsAshley Balzer (NASA Science)
It was gloriously clear this past weekend and I took advantage of it by getting an image of Abell 426 (ACO 426), also known as the Perseus Galaxy Cluster. One galaxy of note is NGC 1275, or Perseus A, which has several obvious streamers of gas that are being thrown off by tidal interactions with nearby galaxies.

I do a lot of deep space astro photography - but planets - barely ever, as they are very difficult to capture from my location. At 57°N latitude you always have some sort of jet stream or area of low pressure near by which makes air incredibly wobbly. On a long exposure - which is required for a faint deep sky object, it is not so noticeable, because during long exposures air wobbles sort of cancel each other out. But planets are bright. In this case I took a video of about 20000 frames and made the software pick 10% of the sharpest frames and stack them. Believe it or not, this blurry blob is 3 years of trying and the best I can come up with for now..

Seven weeks today we'll be off on our last trip of the year, heading down to the Canary Islands and taking my in-laws along this time. That should prove interesting.
The first time we were in Tenerife we tried to visit a solar observatory near Mount Teide but a volcanic eruption on a nearby island meant the telescopes were in use. Hopefully, this time we'll make it.

The sky was pretty crappy last night, but I did manage to scrape up enough data from my #Seestar S30 to see the supernova in NGC 7331.
It's looking like I'm gonna get a crystal clear sky on Thursday night, so should be able to get a much better image.
It’s a new MOON(S)!

Heads up to the astro nerds of the world: New supernova just dropped in NGC 7331! Well timed, since it is near opposition at the moment. Also slightly weird since this galaxy had a notable supernova last year. Apparently it likes to show off.

So happy to have captured this — my best astro photo to date. This is, of course, the Andromeda Galaxy, our nearest large galactic neighbor at a stone’s throw of 2.5 million light years away. You can also see M110 and M32, its two brightest satellite galaxies (out of a whopping 35 dwarf galaxies orbiting around it). Shot with a Dwarf 3 telescope under a starry Idaho night sky, which was stunning even with the naked eye.

This new Webb view reveals Arp 263, an irregular galaxy about 25 million light-years away that may be the aftermath of a galactic merger.
Webb peers through thick gas to reveal old stars alongside clusters of newborn ones. Red-glowing dust winds through the galaxy, while blue clouds mark hydrogen gas ionized by young stars.
Its former galactic companion? Nowhere to be found.
