The two things I miss in Fedi that some other social media sites have: translations & archiving.
Lots of posts in some of the instances I am connected to are in languages I don't read, but it would be really nice to still be able to understand them.
And it would be great to be able to download a backup of the posts (including photos & videos) made to keep these for posterity on a local drive, & enable Fedi to act partly as a digital diary/journal that is more resistant to potential "link rot".

So... Which app are you using for Mastodon lately? Any juicy updates, or new ones?
The feature I want the most is being good at keeping its spot in the timeline, so that I can scroll (up, ideally) towards the present without missing too much stuff.
I follow few enough people that I can actually exhaust my feed, so that's neat.
Some thoughts about PeerTube I've been having.
My biggest complaint about PeerTube as a viewer is that there's really not much interesting content on there (most creators only post to YouTube), and even when there is, very few of the people I follow on YouTube are on PeerTube.
There's a financial reason for this. YouTubers have made a career out of these videos. That career is propped up by the ad revenue that YouTube pays out to them for their viewership, as well as various other sponsorships and such. YouTube pays the bills for these creators.

A while ago I asked people here whether they use Lemmy or Reddit. The results got me thinking: even among people who already use and like the Fediverse, Lemmy seems to be surprisingly small.
So I wrote about why that might be & why I think Lemmy deserves more users.

Seems like the AI bots that have been writing generic #fedi motivational introductions over the last months are out of wack.
truly should remind myself that the skyrocketting numbers on posts doesn't matter, despite some posts having hundred of favorites and boosts, they'll get forgotten at some point because that's how it works, and honestly, i think better of mines cuz they just aren't seen at all, i'm just a niche mf that exists and they'll dig me soon enough trying to find diamonds 🤷

Are there any list of agencies of the EU that has their own fediverse server anywhere?
I'm especially interested in if there are any with a PeerTube server.
UMX is a really great resource for everyone who are interested in #urbanism, safer streets and better public transport. They have a great blog and a ton of online courses. But I first found them via their short videos on YouTube. I want to try to inspire them to also publish those on PeerTube.

I'm going to preface this with that I have no intention of doing this at all, this is just a hypothetical that has been nagging me.
Let's say I were to delete this instance tomorrow, or maybe the domain expires and I never renew it... Does the cache of my posts and info and such eventually disappear from other fediverse instances? Do posts have a TTL that gets refreshed with the originating server or anything like that? I am sure that it is different across different implementations, so I'm really just looking for a general answer...

The 3rd Berlin FediDay is a networking event for people in the Fediverse. Through talks, workshops and networking opportunities, we aim to spread knowledge about the Fediverse, promote creative solutions and strengthen dialogue between developers, admins, academia, civil society and content creators. With over 70 sessions across three halls, a workshop room and several cosy meeting spots stretching from the banks of the Spree to the roof terrace, FediDay is the largest conference dedicated to alternative social networks. It will take place from 11 to 13 September at c-base in Berlin.
We are convinced that a decentralised and free network is the best way to establish a sustainable alternative to Big Tech. This is the only way to enable democratic exchange without being dependent on platforms controlled by profit-driven monopolists, which use algorithmically generated timelines to serve us adverts, promote right-wing baiting or hide content they find objectionable.
Our aim is therefore to establish and expand a strong network that brings together expertise and encourages and empowers participants to remain actively involved after the event and to support each other’s projects. Together, we want to further strengthen the Fediverse in German-speaking countries and across Europe, and provide a platform that fosters exchange and cooperation within the community.
Perhaps you’re already active on Mastodon, Pixelfed or PeerTube. Perhaps you develop applications yourself or are involved with decentralised social networks for activist reasons, for research purposes, or as a platform for sharing your art. Whether you’re a power user or completely new, the programme offers everything you’d expect from a good hacker conference, from beginner’s workshops to panel discussions and parties.

Folks I am aware our Friendica instance does not work very well lately. Loads super slow or not at all at times. I know and I will try to fix it. But for the past days, on top of my issues with being dumped by my best friend, my father had the 4th stroke in 8 months and my sister had some serious health issues we stayed in ER for 10 hours yesterday.
I am very tired, very depressed, very consumed by life.
As soon as I can look into this issue with Friendica I will.

What I'm interested in doing is gathering About pages (including server rules). I can do this by hand (indeed, I've done this many times before!) but maybe it's time for me to learn how to use the API. I'm not interested in posts or anything to do with users -- just the About pages.

ever since I went from 0 followers to thousands of followers back in 2018 after I released Pixelfed, I've used my following to bring awareness to new and up and coming projects.
I remember chatting with Anfora and Fontina devs (both photo sharing platforms) in 2018 and we were so eager to work together.
Both those devs got busy with life and were discouraged by Mastodon drama at the time, but I kept going.
I even started a forum that later became socialhub.activitypub.rocks to connect devs
