Yes, #OpenID Connect has become quite important for me and for people in my circle as well.

If there is already a trusted central authentication provider, it makes signing in to different services much simpler. @dansup wirh #Loops, for example, offers sign-in options through Apple and Google, as far as I know. Nobody has to use those providers, but lowering the entry barrier is important.

The Fediverse needs to become easier to use. People should not have to create and manage a separate account for every single service just to participate.

Would be nice if comments for videos in loops accepted not only GIFs but also images from the androidgallery. maybe limited to 512x512, 500kb, webp/png/jpeg, but with alttext (GIFs do not come with alttext)

I noticed that TikTok supports Polls in Comments by the video creator, and when you comment, it shows the option you voted for.

That is very interesting, but I'm not sure how it would be received if Mastodon users voted on a poll and commented, only for their choice to be public on Loops.

I wanted to reduce the sidebar nav items and make it more cleaner, so I moved Starter Kits to the Explore page.

Now I'm thinking of combining Activity and Messages into a unified Inbox.

That is a bit tricky, because we need to update the badge count to support DMs.

Full agree: the Fediverse needs to become easier and more familiar to use.

But that should mean open, self-hostable standards too. I would really like to see #OIDC / #OpenID Connect as a built-in option — like #Mastodon supports, or #PeerTube can gain through plugins — alongside Sign in with Apple, Google, etc.

For Pixelfed, an easy .env-based configuration for a generic OIDC provider would be ideal: issuer URL, client ID, client secret, scopes, redirect URI — done. That would let instance admins use #Keycloak, #Authentik, #Zitadel, their university/work SSO, or any other compatible provider.

Does #Loops have plans for generic OIDC login? And is this planned for #Pixelfed as well?

Making sign-up familiar matters. Making it interoperable and self-hostable matters just as much.

We shipped a few improvements to our web uploader, fixing the missing audio bug and improving transcoding support for larger files on Safari browsers.

We are working to increase max upload size to 100MB, increase caption length to 2000 chars from 200 chars, and are considering increasing max video length from 3 minutes to 5 minutes and allowing you to increase quality to 1080p for 3-10 videos per month.

I just suggested to the @Mastodon team to implement Sign in with Apple/Google in their official mobile app.

I think it would make a huge difference.

Yes, it would centralize the fediverse more, but it would also bring a whole diverse new crowd here, to make a home on the most trusted and stable Mastodon server.

Once they discover the fediverse, they could migrate to another server that better suits them.

Only a matter of time, mark my words.
