So I don't have a @panoramax image to upload right now because I don't have a proper server to upload it to...yet. My contribution today is saying that some friends and I are working on getting a server set up for Minnesota, and hopefully will be having some big progress on that pretty soon.
Day 8 of #31DayOSMChallenge for #Maptober. I tried to use the limited time I've spent in Europe to inform what I edited. Added details to a hotel I've been to before, and also added a bike rental that's outside the place!

CoMaps release 2026.10.05 is now out via F-Droid, @IzzyOnDroidOrg, Codeberg and on iOS via the AppStore.
New features on Android include links to add @mangroveReviews via @MapComplete and for iOS the support for CarPlay Dashboard.
The Google Play release is still waiting for review as has unfortunately become custom with their approval process.

Usually it is #OpenStreetMap that copies stuff like this from #Wikimedia (like the trademark policy). Glad to see that it can also go the other way around.

Great application #CoMaps! @CoMaps
Some feedback:
- only possible to search for shops etc. when a certain route has started. Why not the possibility to show them in a area of x km of your position for example?
- I was missing a option to search for campings as one can do for shops.
- the names of cities and villages are hard to read (small) on the map for some reason.
- names of villages / cities can only be found if the particular map is downloaded is seems (might be logic)

A few days ago, I left a note in #OpenStreetMap for Seaford because I spotted that two segments of the same road had been given names with different spellings: The Peverells and The Peverels. 13 years ago, the original editor had called it “The Peverels” and had added a ‘not:name’ tag to suggest that the other spelling was in error. Seven years later, someone had ‘corrected’ just one of the segments to “The Peverells” and added a not:name for the other! Neither had provided any explanation. 1/3

@organicmaps is now randomly generated using LLMs. That explains all the strange issues I suddenly started having six months ago, which have only worsened over time. I probably should have checked sooner, it would have saved me the trouble.
Any good alternatives that are known to not be randomly generated? Offline maps are important for me.

Problem:
Bei Navigation über Straße wird jede Einmündung als neuer Streckensabschnitt angezeigt... Also nicht: 50km geradeaus. Sondern: 80m geradeaus, dann schräg rechts, dann 100m geradeaus...
Navigation quasi unmöglich, weil mensch muss ganze Zeit auf das Display gucken, wann echter Abzweig kommt.
Ist das Fehler in den #Openstreetmap Daten, oder eher falsche Auswertung durch Osmand?
What do you suggest to do about it as a community? My suggestion was that #OpenStreetMap (which you praised earlier in the thread for routing!) seems like the right place to reference opening times, away from AI-slop.
The next question is: was the data you looked for missing or wrong in OSM?
If so, what's the best way to improve data quality as a community? I suggested individual improvements via @streetcomplete @everydoor which at scale can make a difference.

I got a PineTime #OpenSource smartwatch to monitor my heart rate on hikes and bike rides. I've had it for a couple months now. I like it a lot, and it's an amazing deal. Finding an app to record heart rate was the hardest part, but it turned out OsmAnd, already my favorite Android mapping app (#FOSS and uses #OpenStreetMap), does a great job. Big thumbs up for both #PineTime and #OsmAnd.

New GLEAPP companion: the Map Downloader cuts an area of the Protomaps planet basemap into one .pmtiles file on an online machine, for GLEAPP's offline maps.
Only the tiles inside the area are downloaded. The server sees which area you ask for.
