  • Procedural book shelves are now used within the level, replacing the fixed model.
  • Started implementation of a world state object as "array of fat structs"
  • Implemented an algorithm to find free space within a shelf for a new book.

Added walls to the room and removed the pillars in the room itself. These can still be placed in the data structure but my random generator isn't using them at the moment. The geometry is now mostly done for my purposes. The next step will be tooling to create and edit rooms manually.

I've spent the last couple of evenings implementing a #GLTF 2.0 parser to support animations. Today I've achieved the first step towards that goal and can now load meshes from .glb files.

I fixed the issue I had preventing me from drawing images (an uninitialized pointer...), so now I have a title screen! Meet 𝗦𝗨𝗣𝗘𝗥 𝗧𝗢𝗕𝗢𝗚𝗚𝗔𝗡 𝟯𝗗 😋

The draw order was a headache (the obstacles were not hidden by the tunnel), at the end I draw all of them (tunnel + obstacles) as the same object, it solves a lot of things x)
The first time I ran this version on real hardware, the framerate was low (below 20fps), I've implemented sort of a LOD system for the tunnel and now I stay around 30fps, I think it will be my target (although the playdate can go up to 50)

I'm having a really great time on this project ❤️
I've been able to add some states (menu, in game and pause), with some UI (I draw everything myself, event the font), an object floating in the tunnel (it's a test for the future player character). I also greatly improved the graphics: I found a wireframe mode from the SDK but I wasn't happy with so I rewritte some parts. I didn't except to have so much fun writing C!
Next focus: the gameplay ☝

I'm currently implementing a #gltf parser to load model with animation. The documentation specifies that the input accessor of the sampler must have its min/max defined. But I cannot find any reason for this so far. Maybe I'll find out later on when I come to the actual implementation of animations.

Anyone got knows more about this? I'm considering skipping this for the moment as it's a bit awkward to express in the type system.

Random wolf style engine project:

I've moved over most of the editing features including half the first person 3d ones from the original software rendered one over to the Raylib powered one. It's close to parity now with where I got to software-rendered before.

Once I add more level editing features I'll start adding some more game mechanics, I guess.

I've implemented a new algorithm to create level layouts. The previous approach added on chamber after the other only connecting it at one suitable location. This lead to "tree like" layout.

The new approach creates a Delaunay triangulation where each chambers center is a vertex. Then it discards edges as long as the graph stays connected. The remaining edge are used to as corridors.

SECOND HAND COMPUTER IS OUT!

SHC is a sort of vibes-based programmable #FantasyComputer designed to mimic my own experiences getting a second-hand computer too crappy to run graphical games.

Inside Second Hand Computer you will find a pile of random text games I've made, from the very simple (Hangman and 2048) to the gimicky (Wargames) to larger original projects such as Swords of Freeport and BOOTLEG.

You can even code your own games for it in Lua.
