This initiative calls to require publishers that sell or license #videogames to consumers in the European Union (or related features and assets sold for videogames they operate) to leave said videogames in a functional (playable) state.

Specifically, the initiative seeks to prevent the remote disabling of videogames by the publishers, before providing reasonable means to continue functioning of said videogames without the involvement from the side of the #publisher.

The initiative does not seek to acquire ownership of said videogames, associated intellectual rights or #monetization rights, neither does it expect the publisher to provide resources for the said #videogame once they discontinue it while leaving it in a reasonably functional (playable) state.

#Procon-SP, the #SaoPaulo branch of #Brazil’s #ConsumerProtection and Defence program, has stated in a press release that it is challenging #Nintendo‘s ability to #brick Nintendo #Switch2 consoles when it wants, citing certain aspects of it “abusive.” As we already know Nintendo can permanently restrict you from accessing the Nintendo eShop and online play if they believe you have used unauthorised accessories or pirated #software. This leads to the devastating 2124-4508 error code. Procon-SP says that canceling subscriptions or services without explanation violates consumer protection rules in Brazil. Nintendo has said that it has appointed a local #law firm to handle the matter.

I tried to pre-order the phone and pay the $100 downpayment, hoping to test the phone to see what apps come pre-installed, how secure it really is, and what components it includes when it comes out. The website failed, went to an error page, and then charged my credit card the wrong amount of $64.70. I received a confirmation email saying I’ll receive a confirmation when my order has been shipped, but I haven’t provided a shipping address or paid the full $499 price tag. It is the worst experience I’ve ever faced buying a consumer electronic product and I have no idea whether or how I’ll receive the phone.

I wonder how much of the smartphone is made in #China like #MAGA caps... 🤔
