I love the dynamic nature of a forest -- it's not like a Christmas tree farm, with rows of the same sized, same shaped trees one after another.

There's a little of everything, from the very youngest saplings struggling to reach sunlight on the forest floor, to old craggy snags that aren't quite ready to give in, fall over, and become a log that mushrooms can thrive on.

Die KΓΌnstlerin steht lΓ€chelnd mit schwarzer Kappe und langen Haaren neben ihrer Feldstaffelei tief unten in der Viamala Schlucht. Links oben ist die Hauptstrasse, in den Fels gebaut und mit einer Gallerie vor Steinschlag geschΓΌtzt. Oben in der Mitte ΓΌberqueren zwei BrΓΌcken die steile, felsige Schlucht. Auf der Staffelei steht das fertige Bild, welches auf realistische Weise die Viamalaschlucht abbildet. Die Felsen sind dunkelgrau und die spΓ€rliche Vegetation wie Moos, GrΓ€ser und kleine BΓΌsche sind knackig grΓΌn.
Die Adula Bergkette, auch Rheinwaldhorn genannt, mit Gletscher beim Einnachten. Der Himmel ist violett-blau, die schneebedeckten FlΓ€chen leuchten im Restlicht, im Tal unten ist es bereits dunkel. Rechts im Vordergrund steht eine Tanne. Unten an der diesseitigen Bergflanke entlang ist ein Weg sichtbar. Im Himmel leuchtet der Abendstern.
Ein spiegelglatter Bergsee von hohen Bergzinnen umgeben. Es ist FrΓΌhsommer, noch frΓΌh am Morgen und die ersten Sonnenstrahlen haben den See erreicht. Das Licht wirft noch lange Schatten, im smaragdblauen Wasser spiegeln sich die LΓ€rchen von der anderen Seite des Sees. Links, vom Bildrand abgeschnitten stehen dunkle Tannen. Diel Luft wirkt frisch und vom Licht durchdrungen.
Die linke Hand der KΓΌnstlerin hΓ€lt einen feinen Pinsel und malt an einem mittelgrossen Bild (ca. 50 x 70 cm). Das Bild, welches gerade entsteht, ist von einem realistischen, felsigen, schneebedeckten Berggrat. Die letzten Sonnenstrahlen berΓΌhren eben noch die obersten Felsen und SchneeflΓ€chen und tauchen es in ein warmes, goldenes Licht. Der Himmel darΓΌber ist tief blau. Die unteren 2/3 des Berges liegen bereits im dunklen Schatten. Das noch unfertige Bild drΓΌckt bereits eine tiefe Ruhe aus.

My Lino block print shows a fox running across the snowy ground with the aurora borealis lighting up the sky. I have made a series of arctic animal prints with the northern lights. This one also alludes to Finnish mythology of the Northern Lights. They call the aurora β€œrevontulet” which means β€œfox fire” because their legendary origin with arctic foxes running so fast that their large, 🧡1/2

This is my linocut print of an Arctic fox running over snowy grown against the night sky, printed in a gradient of indigo to dark indigo from the base to the top. The print has a tetradic colour scheme. Along with indigo the aurora shines in swathes of lime, lemon yellow and pinkish purple. This is a variable edition of 10 prints, printed by hand on Japanese paper, 9.25’ by 12.5”.
