Backyard Bees

The onion flowers are coming into full bloom right now and the bees are loving them. I was able to use my Ricoh GRIIIx to get the close ups of the bees on the flowers in these photos.

We also harvested the smallest watermelon from the backyard watermelon patch this year. I put it up next to a quarter to give the scale of just how small it was before a chipmunk (I assume)...

Yes, it actually rained. In August. Last time I remember, I was in my teens, trying to enjoy the arctic sea at Sesimbra with my friend Geneviève, a Normand that was the first person I ever saw using sunscreen (we all used suntan oil then). #summerrains #flora #backyard #climatechange #photography

The plum tree lost it this year. Having been forced by #climatechange to bloom twice ( February and April) in the last 4/5 years, bearing only a couple of bowls of fruit, this year it was allowed its usual yearly blooming in April. No need to fight the blackbirds next month. There's plenty for everyone. #flora #backyard #plums #photography

*A politics-free toot*

With the spring days just around the corner (I heard a goose this morning!) I need to prepare the house and the backyard for the future sale.

I was looking forward getting rid of the yew bushes myself (they've no value for bees, birds etc) but after research I found out that yews growing close to foundation walls (my case) can do damage to the walls if you remove them too brutally.

It seems I'll have to call professionals for this one.
