Unfortunately spam and abuse - like anywhere on the Internet - can be a problem in public channels on the Jabber/XMPP network.
That's why the next version of #Conversations_im is combining ban and message deletion (moderation) into one step.
Let's hope you won't need that functionality very often.

La situacion en #cyberdelia.com.ar es la siguiente, cortaron la luz, parece que el corte es grande porque Edesur puso un generador para suplir la falta de servicio que desde hace 12 horas nos dejo sin luz. El tema es que eso afecto a los nodos del ISP y todavia no hay servicio de internerd en la zona.
Esperemos que cuando vuelva internerd el ISP recuerde que tenemos IP publica... hasta entonces sera todo incertidumbre.
Si no vuelve solo, tendre que gestionar una visita tevcnica del ISP... asi que en el peor de los casos nos vemos la semana que viene.

When enabled "toggle chat" is shown in the bottom right. But only sometimes and then it's gone again. Tried to login with username@pirati.ca + pw but that fails. So now I am wondering which password would be expected? The xmpp address was pre-filled.

I hope that others will start helping to index websites and run independent search sites.

Ein cooles und oft unterschätztes Feature (evtl. sogar Alleinstellungsmerkmal?) von XMPP-Messengern ist übrigens die echte Mehrgerätefähigkeit und Geräteunabhängigkeit:
Du kannst dich von beliebig vielen Geräten gleichzeitig einloggen und mit allen parallel Nachrichten senden und empfangen.
Wenn du dein Handy verloren oder kaputt gemacht hast, kannst du vom Laptop aus weiterhin mit deinen Kontakte schreiben, ohne dass du dein Handy dazu benötigst.
Natürlich alles verschlüsselt und datenschutzfreundlich usw.
Ich möchte dich heute zum #did deshalb dazu einladen, #XMPP einmal auszuprobieren. Die Messenger-App Conversations gibt es aktuell angeblich (kann es mangels Google-Account nicht prüfen) sogar kostenlos im PlayStore 😀

I did a new try with #xmpp it was worst than expected.
I remember xmpp or jabber was an instant message system that works well.
I accepted a new test in the hope that I could accept it and why not use it.
But it simple does not work. I understand now why nobody use it exept geek people who like to dive in the cryptography or like command like. xmpp is not a tool for every body
At work I have to solve every day problem I don't want to do the same at home I want something I click and it works

If the client know that my client is OMEMIO encrypted why not sending it normale and readable ?

Wer Signal deswegen nicht nutzen möchte, kann mit #DeltaChat auf eigener Mailserver-Architektur arbeiten. Aber #Signal kann wesentlich mehr als DeltaChat.
Oder #Conversations auf #XMPP Architektur. Dort ist aber die Handhabung von Schlüsseln schlecht gemacht, führt ggf. zu einer Inflation von Schlüsselpaaren.
Daher bleiben wir bei Signal, wobei wir DeltaChat als Fallback haben.
Nach einem Ejabberd-Update und -Neustart haben die Familienmitglieder nun teilweise Probleme mit der OMEMO-Verschlüsselung.
Jetzt debugge das mal halbwegs mit lauter nicht-Technikern, die einfach nur ihre Ruhe und einen funktionierenden Familienchat haben wollen und zig bis hunderte Kilometer voneinander entfernt leben.
Hasse gerade alles.
Wieso muss mit jedem Ejabberd Neustart irgendwas kaputt sein? Meistens sind es nur S2S Verbindungen, die sich mit weiteren Neustarts wieder einrenken. Aber diesmal ist es echt ein Problem.
Habe _echt_ keine Zeit für sowas 🙁

NC-Talk ist wunderbar, solange ihr im Textmodus bleibt. Wollt ihr damit Videokonferenzieren, braucht's halt zusätzliche Serverkapazitäten, die für nen privaten NC-Betreiber ohne Einnahmen aus Datenverkauf meist ausserhalb des Budgets liegen. Funktionieren tut es wunderbar.
Habt ihr schonmal über XMPP (=Jabber) nachgedacht?
Einfach mal Conversations (android) oder Gajim (Desktop) installieren und freuen.

Totgesagt? Keineswegs. Rund um Jabber (XMPP) gibt es nach wie vor eine erstaunlich engagierte Community. Der Digital Independence Day hat ordentlich Bewegung reingebracht: Innerhalb nur einer Woche entstanden Info-Folder in drei Sprachen – komplett layoutet von @digitalcourage. Deutsch und Englisch wurden noch rechtzeitig zur FOSDEM gedruckt, Französisch folgte als PDF. Ja, ein paar kleine Fehler sind noch drin – Version 2 kommt asap. Since there is no recipe for switching to an independent messenger based on XMPP I created a recipe-website which is now also available in English.

DinoX - Enhanced feature and security fork of Dino.im
This looks like a quite promising fork of Dino.im (which has somewhat stalled in development).
It has significantly improved A/V calls it seems, built in Tor support, on-device database encryption and a few other interesting fixes and improvements.
