Illuminated cherry blossoms at Himeji Castle

Arriving too late to enter the castle during the day, we were delighted to discover that it reopened at night for *yozakura* — illuminated cherry blossoms after dark. It was one of the most beautiful scenes I have ever witnessed, even if this photo cannot fully capture it.

Lens: Zuiko Digital 14-54mm F2.8-3.5 II
Processed in DXO Photolab 7, DeepPRIME denoising. Cropped maybe 50% or so. RAW converted to Black and White.

Mixed feelings about DeepPRIME since it uses machine learning. Arguably any denoising is still modifying the original sensor data. Doing a comparison, the original and edited are nearly identical aside from the black and white conversion. My impression at the time of editing was that the DeepPRIME denoising result was nearer to the original digital grain structure than the other denoising algorithms. Feel free to comment with your opinions. At this point I prefer letting the camera do the processing when possible. Probably more information than anyone needs.

Sat for quite a while in front of the flower waiting for the bee to circle back around.

Sakura at Himeji Castle, Hyogo, Japan
A castle I had long wanted to visit welcomed us with cherry blossoms in full bloom. Unfortunately we arrived too late to enter the main keep.

#NeoFinder 9.2.1 for #macOS has an improved Map navigation when multiple pins are shown: The Map shows the thumbnail of a pin in a "callout" when you click on it.

Paying tribute to the beauty of the Apple Xserve. We have a rack in our datacentre I usually think of as our legacy rack. There are six still present, though they are all powered down. Two or three had their backplanes swapped from raid to passthru so they could run ESXi. I have another 3 at home but similarly they are all powered down. They eat a lot of power and make a lot of noise but I remember them purring away in the old MDF running ALL THE SERVICES back when I was in highschool as a tech TA.
