Stepping through the doorway, I entered this charming, old-fashioned shop. This place felt like a time capsule, a relic of olden-day Ireland. The shelves were sparsely stocked, but there were still intriguing remnants: rusty biscuit tins, antique sweet jars, and other knick-knacks.

Judging by scattered paperwork, it appears the shop closed sometime in the early 1990s.

Jazzo Martora

A jazzo is an ancient and characteristic dry-stone structure typical of the Puglia region of southern Italy, used for shelter, even temporarily, of livestock (especially sheep) during the transhumance along the sheep tracks. It consists of large enclosures with dividing walls, stables (lamioni), milking areas (mungitori), and often dwellings for the shepherds. They were designed to be functional and durable, with features such as stone wolf guards to protect against predators.

After years of abandonment, this once bustling pool has been reclaimed by nature. Diverse plants colonise the tiled surfaces, everything from small ferns to quite mature trees. A songful family of frogs has made their home in the stagnant water that remains in the deep end.

🧼 When a spot turns into an unexpected side quest! Finding this old bathhouse house (hammam) in Lebanon had me walking in circles.

Arriving at the approximate location highlighted by my research, I could see nothing but shop stalls in the souk. I threaded my way through the warren-like passages of the market, circling back to where I entered.
