Writing by hand means it won't get finished.

I tried that. I brought a paper notebook to vacations, wrote scenes, felt good - but they never made it into the actual book.

I haven't tried dictating stories but I think it would horribly suck at it.

My words flow through the keyboard into a file - through my fingers. That's what the brain wants.

Gun to my head? Couple of hours. But it wouldn't be fun. I'd miss almost all the emotional depth, the character subtext, the artistry of the prose. It would be a skim for plot. I used to read books like that for classes. No fun at all.

Fedi hive mind, I'm writing a story. The MC investigates a Luo folk song (re: oral history, Uganda/South Sudan) that has clues saying 500 yrs ago an astronomer from China visited and documented Luo space travel technologies (portals to the stars). This knowledge is now lost and my MC has to unravel the clues, but what clues could point to China without usung racist stereotypes? Perhaps a word, a name, a description, something?

Third Person Omniscient POV: The narrator has full knowledge of all characters' thoughts, feelings, and the story's past and future, enabling a god-like perspective. While less common in modern novels, it is used in classic literature and genres requiring a broad narrative scope.

I wish more people would bring this one back.

We all start somewhere. We move forward, push forward in spite of the odds, continue learning, develop a style, and become better writers as the days pass. We learn as we go. It's a never-ending journey. My past writing is just conglomeration of experience. It's interesting to read old stories back nowadays. Kinda mindboggling as well. I like to go back, edit, rework, and rewrite old stories of mine to fit my writing style these days. But yes, it's all experience, and it's also shaped who I am now, no matter what the stories or projects were. It's all just a part of the process. Most of us would call it growth.

Oh, gosh. I track *everything* I do, although I'm sometimes known to be a pantser as well. I'm a bit of both.

"Pantsers are writers who creates their work without a detailed outline, often writing 'by the seat of their pants.' This approach allows them to develop their story organically, relying on their ideas, themes, or characters as they write, rather than following a pre-planned structure. In contrast, a 'plotter' is someone who outlines their work before writing."

I'm a bit of both, but I *always* track everything I write, even if the outline isn't so detailed, and if an idea randomly comes to me, I try to write everything down for it (although it might be after the fact).

Gute Nacht, Freunde.

It's been a day.

I have sent off the forms to officially terminate my book publishing business at the end of the month. It was difficult to admit to myself, but I can't see a way to make my books truly profitable anymore.

Do not worry. I will continue to write, I will continue to offer my books, but for tax reasons, it'll be as a freelancer. Much, much easier on me.

I hope this reduction of pressure will make it easier to get back into writing.

Writers as diverse in style and time as Laurence Sterne, William Blake, Emily Dickinson, Walt Whitman, and D. H. Lawrence have played this game.
