The Beautiful Monster
On a south-eastern flank of E15 is a pretty valley named Seljavellir. There's a natural hot pool but, in late October, we weren't there for a dip in the waters.
Enclosed on three sides by mountains, we were there for the verdant mossy slopes and for the clean waterfalls dropping from Eyjafjallajökull stratovolcano and Guðnanípa mountain.
Eyjafjöll in southern Iceland. The main cascades are the Laugará river.

A Baroque door wearing a Gothic arch.
The pointed brick arch in Lüneburg dates to the city's medieval salt-trade era. The Rococo-inflected door surround (pilasters, cartouche panel) came later, probably the 18th century. The two stone relief roundels flanking the garden gate are likely late Baroque garden ornaments. The pale sky blue color is a northern German tradition: in Low German brick Gothic regions, blue-painted woodwork against warm red brick has centuries of precedent.
Three architectural eras in one frame, and the whole thing still functions as someone's front gate.

White Spires
Early November, and we were driving north through the Eastfjords.
Before we entered the tunnel leading to Reyðarfjörður, we stopped to admire the beautiful mountains at the head of Fáskrúðsfjörður fjord.
Fjarðabyggð, eastern Iceland. The mountains are Vaðhorn (1086 metres / 3563 feet) and Launárfell (1058 metres / 3471 feet)

Für den #FotoMontag eine tierische Begegnung von der Sonntagswanderung. Dieser Laubfrosch (?) saß mitten in einer Sinterterrasse im Wasser - unfassbar gut getarnt zwischen dem alten Laub. Als ich mich beim Weggehen nochmal umdrehte, konnte ich ihn nicht mehr entdecken, obwohl ich noch wusste, wo er ungefähr saß und musste erst nochmal näher hin und mir die Position ganz genau merken, um ihn auch mit mehr Abstand wieder zu finden.

Munich's Jugendstil architects didn't stop at the door. They treated the whole facade as the canvas. One building in Schwabing has a warm honey-blond double door with sunburst fan transom glass, but it's the polychrome frieze above that stops you: two reclining figures in white relief against vivid blue and gold, fruit trees arching overhead. Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden.

Er gehört zur Gattung der Weißdorne in der Familie der Rosengewächse.
Bei uns wurden in einer Straße mehrere solcher Bäume gepflanzt. Sie blühen jetzt und das sieht besonders schön aus.
