"The internet gave almost everyone the ability to publish. #SocialMedia gave almost anyone the possibility of reaching a mass audience. That democratisation of public debate is one of the great achievements of our age. But it has also transformed how authority is earned and challenged.
Everyone having a microphone is a democratic achievement. Everyone believing their microphone makes them an authority is a democratic vulnerability."

YouTube, TikTok and Meta have all supplied a reason related to “political” content” to Bleecker Street reps. The latter two companies’ platforms, by policy, do not allow campaign or other political ads, largely owing to fallout from the Cambridge Analytica Facebook scandal during the 2016 election. But the Musk trailer, which dropped Thursday, does not appear to fall in the category of the campaign advertising those bylaws were enacted to prevent. It simply contains a shot of a political rally in 2024 and a reference at the end to the 2024 election — the kind of flicks that occur in numerous documentaries and are hardly meant to stump for a particular candidate in an upcoming race.

"One group of people is more isolated than anyone else. It’s not men."
"Across all these studies, there is one group that is drastically lonelier than everyone else. The people who are not getting their share of social connection in America are those who aren’t getting their share of a lot: poor people. Those who struggle to afford essentials are also more likely to struggle with feelings of isolation."

Mark Zuckerberg, whose superyacht apparently spent the weekend ignoring or missing the distress signal from a boat that ran out of fuel near Alaska, has posted a deranged, 6,500 word essay detailing his vision for AI superintelligence, a future that is “for everyone” but which sounds less social than ever.

The German Peasant's War (1524 to 1525) was, at some point, Europe's biggest revolt toward an established oppressor. Referenced frequently by historical radical leftists, including Engels, Kropotkin, and Bakunin. It goes to show just how far our class struggle dates back to.
