Paradoxically, they position themselves as a company committed to #freesoftware and the community, yet they’re distancing themselves from one of the most iconic spaces of that community: the #fediverse.
This shift is evident in the series of controversial #businessdecisions they’ve made over time—such as the creation of #ProtonWallet, the introduction of #AI, their preference for closed ecosystems, and the failure to prioritize #Linux development.

They're relocating resources. Good for them if they intend on growing their business and aren't getting what they expected from Mastodon. Everyone else can do just the same and either keep on using tools from their ecosystem or not. No sensationalism required.
Their offerings are still some of the best bets for beginners and users who demand hassle-free options. Anyone can later migrate to another service or host their own.
