I moved my instance of Mastodon from storage on my NAS to storage on my Mac Studio. There was a post I did a few seconds ago which took 40 seconds to write to the database, apparently due to a blip in connectivity between the studio and the nas. It was running pretty good on the nas to be fair, but some things weren't as pin sharp and responsive as I might have liked. So I've switched over.
This wouldn't have been an issue had I chosen option B. So option A was extensive rewrites to the react frontend of my instance, which I ended up doing. Option B would be just creating my own Mastodon compatible server/service out of a svelte front end app and a number of Go microservices. While I reckon option B would have been way more performant than what I have right now, it's a lot of bits and pieces to rewrite. So in the end I went with option A.

A drive-through town for speeding road trains
Elsewhere large road trains are also racing through the middle of the small town's main street. It might not be 800 heavy haulage trucks rolling through, but the main street life is suffering.

Rural road deaths increasing
"A new report has identified an increasing number of fatal crashes on rural and regional roads".
"An analysis by the Australian Road Safety Foundation (ARSF) found 906 people died on roads outside the capital cities in 2025, a 10.5 per cent increase on 2024. The ARSF understands this to be the highest number of regional fatalities since 2020."
