🇫🇷 The Tour Saint-Jacques rises from its new park in the middle of Paris, around 1866–1870. Horse-drawn omnibuses and carriages roll along the wide new streets, and the theatres of the Place du Châtelet stand behind.
The Gothic tower was built in 1509–1523 as the bell tower of the church of Saint-Jacques-de-la-Boucherie. The church was demolished after the Revolution, but the tower was spared. Under Napoleon III it was restored and given a garden, one of the first public squares of Haussmann's Paris.
