It’s wonderful when the weather cools and the leaves begin turning into the colorful mosaic of autumn. What’s less wonderful is when they all fall from the trees and blanket the ground. I have many trees—therefore, many leaves. For some reason, this gives me the feeling that I ought to pick them up. I don’t, though. I run over them with the lawn mower a few times to chop them up, and then, come spring, I might hire someone to clear the yard of leaves, pinecones, and other natural debris.
The funny thing is, the folks I hire do a fairly good job with the sticks, pinecones, and leaves—but they leave candy wrappers scattered here and there. It’s as if they’ve missed the point entirely. C’est la vie.
Halloween approaches 🎃—a time for ghosts, goblins, and other supernatural creatures to emerge. Hmm 🤔… are ghosts creatures? I’ll have to think about that. And what exactly are goblins? I seem to recall them in The Lord of the Ri

You know, I was sitting at my kitchen table a couple of days ago, working on something, and I sensed someone low on my left side. I assumed it was my dog, Charlie. But when I looked up, Charlie was over in the family room. I turned my head to the left—nothing there. I thought, maybe it was Ben. Ben died back in June… but could it be? I don’t believe in ghosts, but I try to keep an open mind. Besides, if Ben were hanging around, that would be okay.
