Lol

Mastodon has an account verification system, but it works differently to most social networks. There is no central authority confirming people's identity, instead there is a self-service system based on ownership of websites or web pages. You can find out more at:

For example, the official account for LibreOffice is @libreoffice and we know it is official because their profile page's link to libreoffice.org is green.

This morning, during our verification call with Diyaa (@DiaaMahmoud097), we heard some shocking news about his brother.

This is the reality of Palestinians facing genocide at the hands of Israel in Gaza.

Please help Diyaa, who needs an operation on his leg (and had to skip his appointment two days ago as he has to take care of his extended family of nine).

A screenshot of a webpage titled "welcome to robyn's space" showing a keyboard image banner, navigation links, and a blog post about host migration and Mastodon verification. The banner at the top features a close-up of pink and white keyboard keys (including "Enter" and "Del" keys) with a pink bar below reading "welcome to robyn's space". Below that, navigation links in purple text: "home", "posts", "now", "about". The main heading is "Host Migration and Mastodon Verification (finally!)", followed by "robyn :: 16 Jan 2026" and hashtags: "#small web #indie web #blog #hugo #mastodon #verification #fediverse". The first section heading is "01. But Why?", with text explaining hosting provider changes and Mastodon verification requests.

Mastodon's verification system is mainly for people and organisations who have their own website. It makes your Mastodon profile's link to your website turn green, proving you are the owner of the site.

Here's how to verify your account:

If you've tried doing this and it didn't work, see the troubleshooting section of the guide ("My website address won’t turn green!") as there are lots of possible ways you might fix it.

• Ibrahim – @ibrahim46
• Islam and her family – @eslamradwan1_D_5

Please give them a warm welcome to Mastodon and the fediverse, follow their accounts, and, if you can, please help them with their fundraisers and please share this so others might also.

If you have a website or blog, you can verify your account using Mastodon's self-service verification system:

➡️ fedi.tips/how-do-i-verify-my-a…

After your account is verified, your profile's link to your site or blog will turn green.

If you've tried to verify and it's failed to turn green, there are lots of suggestions for how to fix this in the guide linked above.

What I had thought, has been said publicly by the fdroid project. The verification process which shall be rolled out in a couple of weeks and be enforced later in time, globally, will effectively kill the fdroid repository.
