I was admiring some lovely graphs of energy use and thinking how awesome Home Assistant is today.
I first installed it to track moisture/temperature/temperature from some plant sensors, but the next thing I know I'm making a mostly non-cloud smart home.
I love how it's a real community of people just doing whatever little (or big) thing they want; learning and sharing and making and having fun.
This little leak sensor with Home Assistant just saved my basement! Water was backing up in our basement and Home Assistant alerted me and within 30 seconds I was able to shut off the water.
Super cool: NetworkChuck has done a video series in which he builds a voice assistant powered by @homeassistant. Powered fully by local AI, Speech-to-Text and Text-to-Speech. Open Source for the win 💪

After releasing the visual editor for the week-planner-card yesterday I found out it is possible to use the default entity picker field in custom cards after all. So I just release version 1.10.1, improving the visual editor with the entity picker and icon picker fields. #HomeAssistant

Event wrap-up - GitHub Universe '24
Home Assistant had pretty huge presence at this year's GitHub Universe, and here are the highlightsHome Assistant
Home Assistant is set up in the house, and tomorrow the dongle for connecting to Thread will arrive, so I can hook up the rest of the devices. Today, I replaced the last smart thermostat head in my home. Feeling good 🥰
I've just released version 1.9.0 of the custom #HomeAssistant card week-planner-card. This release includes the option to combine similar events from different calendars, support for twice_daily weather forecast and additional data attributes that can be used for custom styling with card_mod.

I recently bought a pack of NFC tags to use with @homeassistant and I gotta say—I'm really happy with how they're working out.
I have the apartment problem where I have IoT bulbs everywhere, but turning on/off those bulbs means opening an app. But, now I can just tap my phone to turn on a room's lights or turn off all lights before I leave. It's nice, and was only about $10 for 30 tags.

Just published a new blog post outlining how I setup energy and temperature monitoring for my hot tub with #ESPHome and #HomeAssistant, with a side order of 3D Printing! 🤓

Hot Tub Monitoring with Home Assistant and ESPHome
A short blog post explaining how I replaced a proprietary wireless temperature monitor for my hot tub, with a simple ESP32 based micro-controller and a cheap bluetooth pool thermometer, all linked up with Home Assistant.Jon Seager (jnsgr.uk)
Home Assistants new view type is so much cleaner, adaptive and reactive. Very impressive update!
I hate running to the kitchen all the time to check whether the oven has finished preheating.
So I've quickly created a @homeassistant Automation which checks the power usage of the oven. When it drops for at least 1000W, I get a notification on my mobile phone.
I bought two of the RatGDO boards to work with #HomeAssistant and they have been basically flawless. Apparently they work with #HomeKit as well, you just flash different firmware.
This was to get around Chamberlain blocking Home Assistant from their APIs. I was skeptical about wiring these weird little boards to these big machines but they've been great.
Built a WiFi temperature sensor for my hot tub integrated with #HomeAssistant using #ESPHome today, my first time playing with ESP Home!
Topped off with a little 3D printed enclosure… details soon! 😎🤓

I just created a new Homeassistant-OS VM on my new homeserver, took a backup of my old #HomeAssistant install (running in Docker on a Raspi), uploaded that to the new one's "start from a backup" dialog and was back up and running 15 minutes later. And most of that I spent waiting for the upload, the restore, and the reboot after
That was impressively smooth - only a single thing broke (MQTT tried to connect to a broker on localhost, which I changed back to the RasPi's IP. Took me no more than a minute)
There's a couple of other services I wanna migrate, but they'll follow when I have a couple of minutes
Github? I think I rather do want to miss it, thanks.
Looking forward to the next non-Github related HomeAssistant event, though.
