Anarchists oppose the state because we oppose all forms of domination.
Some people have a hard time with this because they think domination is good and hate freedom; others have a hard time with this because they’ve mistaken the state for human sociality in general rather than what it is, a specific and historically contingent institution of oppression.
The former are easy to see as adversaries but the latter I just want to give a hard shake.

This is wild, because essentially it rests on the assumption that human beings are _inherently_ violent, unless coerced.
Quite the opposite is true: anarchism is an ideology of non-viololence that builds on the assumption that humans are inherently cooperative and peaceful, they don't need to be coerced.
Shake em!!

I’m an anarchist but I am not a pacifist. People have an array of non-violent options for dealing with potential self-aggrandizers, but I’m perfectly content to use violence to defend myself against someone who wants to dominate me.

What about your elderly neighbor who isn't capable of defending themselves?
What about you when 10 billy bob tinydicks show up at your property to take what you have?
This isn't a philosophical question.
These people exist, how do you deal with them, or are you planning on just ignoring them until they kick your door in?

It’s not at all what I said, meant, or implied.
> “What about your elderly neighbor who isn't capable of defending themselves?”
Human beings form these neat things called communities and societies through which they’re capable of effecting communal action on scales that none of them would be able to achieve on their own. This includes cooperative self defense.
> “What about you when 10 billy bob tinydicks show up at your property to take what you have?”
Presumably you could also muster your own coalition to deter or defend against their aggression, something human beings have done for hundreds of thousands of years.
> “This isn't a philosophical question.”
I agree: it’s an empirical one. I’ve written at length about mechanisms that people living without the state have defended themselves from would-be dominators:

@FediTips I would like to mute this thread from exactly here. Is there any strategy I could use to follow all these awesome people, and the discussion about #anarchism, but opt out of the #usPol part of it? #fediTips or is that impossible without prescient hashtag usage?

If you use the "mute conversation" option that mutes notifications from the whole thread.
I guess a workaround might be a temporary mute on particular people that you don't want to hear from? But that would mute all their posts and replies in other threads too.
