The same thing happened under McCarthyism in the 1950s. Police rounded up and murdered trans women, destroying records of their existence.

Now, trans adults are being banned from healthcare. Gender markers on IDs and passports are being revoked, making it impossible for trans people to legally exist. Bathroom bans have turned into public space bans.

Transgender people are both a national group within the U.S. and an international group with a shared identity and experience across borders.
