@HistoPol if you only add English in a toot or AltText which is marked English, you can ask Mastodon to translate it if you default language is not English, I do believe it's only if your instance supports it. And as far as I've been able to find out most instances support it
I've found it handy to read toots posted in Chinese or Japanese
