I have the following #proposal to #Fediverse regarding if an instance/account want to be listed in a public directory!
Presumption:
Some accounts want to get more public reach, others want to stay private. The same with instances.
Accounts:
- Opt-out: Use the hastags norobot,norobots,noindex,noarchive,nosearch. This I have seen on many accounts and I consider it as implemted yet.
- Opt-in: Use the hashtag fedi22. This is taken over from fediverse.info/explore/people as it is yet in use to mark an account to want to b

- Opt-in: Use the hashtag fedi22. This is taken over from fediverse.info/explore/people as it is yet in use to mark an account to want to be public and like the idea to use one standard instead of to request the users to add an hastag each directory they want to be listed in.
Instances:
- Opt-out: Add to robots.txt
User-agent: FeDirectories
Disallow: /.well-known/webfinger
to exclude ANY/EVERY public directory.
- Opt-in: This is directory specific to opt-in single directories:
User-agent: StartDirectory
Allow: /
Example robots.txt: inne.city/robots.txt
I will implement robots.txt in Startdir.de immediately, in Webfan it is implemented yet, account hashtags are implemented in Startdir and Webfan yet.
