N° 15 - Da ist es, das recht neue Wahrzeichen der stolzen Hansestadt Hamburg, die Elbphilharmonie, gebaut auf einen alten Speicher, hier eingebettet in die Hafensilhouette, zu der auch der ehem. Frachter und jetzt als Hotel genutzte "Cap San Diego" gehört.

Ein langes Wochenende durch diese geschäftige scheinbar sich selbst genügende Handelsstadt, in der das Wasser der Elbe immer präsent ist.
Noch immer sind Wunden des 2. Weltkeiegs sichtbar, auch an Bausünden danach, aber interessant auch das internationale Flair dieser Hafenstadt, die Menschen aus so vielen Ländern der Welt, die das gediegene Hamburg gut aufmischen.

The scars of the Second World War are still visible, including in the architectural blunders that followed, but the international flair of this port city is also fascinating – with people from so many countries around the world adding a lively mix to the dignified city of Hamburg.

I entered on a whim, feeling like I had nothing to lose, and then, as an amateur photographer, made it to the final round—among the last four... on the shortlist... Yippee!

Serie 02: "off 02-tea"

Kaum etwas ist so abwechslungsreich, flirrend, veränderlich wie der Schatten, alle Nuancen der Graustufen abbildend, in seiner Vielfalt keine Farbe benötigend, dennoch in der Lage, Farbe zu verändern und zu durchkreuzen, in besonderen Momenten sich sogar selbst farbig zeigend.
Die Faszination für das permanente sich ändern des Schattens ist Antrieb, und mehr noch als das passive Beobachten und Entdecken verschiedenster Schattenwürfe reizt es, mit dem natürlichen oder künstlichen Licht zu experimentieren, wobei ….das Licht nun ist sekundär, denn der Schatten, das Spiel mit ihm … er ist Hauptakteur, leitet in kreative Rage, spornt an, das alles ergänzt um Spiegelungen und Reflexionen.
Diese drei Akteure für sich, vor allem aber in ihren Überlagerungen miteinander erzeugen an einer Wand, auf einem Fußboden, auf verschiedensten Materialien und Oberflächen räumlich wirkende Gebilde, Mixturen aus Beweglichem und Statischem.
Der Zufall ist ebenfalls wichtiger Aspekt, aus ihm heraus entsteht plötzlich aus Beiläufigem durch waches Auge und Blickwinkel ein neues Spiel, die Spielgeräte hierfür werden vor Ort neu zusammengestellt, Wassergefäße, Gläser, Gitter, auch Gefäße, Tassen, Hände.
Plötzlich ist sie da, die Szenerie, alles schnell gegriffen und losprobiert, Improtheater vorm Objektiv, ohne Stativ, oft einarmig, alles für die Neu-Inszenierung des Schattens.
Die Fertigstellung des Motivs ist erreicht, wenn die Stimmung des Experimentierens gebannt ist auf dem Foto, und um vom Wesen des „neuen“ Schattens nicht abzulenken, der Verzicht auf Farbe, nur Schwarz-Weiß, so die Fokussierung auf das Motiv, die Struktur, die Komposition unterstützend.

Vorgestellt werden zwei Serien, „Shadowgames Office“ und „Shadowgames Ceran“. Während die erstere aus vier mal vier Fotografiereihen besteht, die sich allesamt während der Arbeitszeit in den Büroräumen bei tiefstehender Wintersonne durch die Oberlichtbänder des ehemaligen Heiz- und Waschhauses (ein Gebäude der Neuen Sachlichkeit) „entwickelten“, entstand die zweite Serie, hier zusammengestellt mit einer vierer Fotoreihe am heimischen Ceranfeld, als die untergehende Sonne noch schräg ins Küchenfenster auf die Herdplatte fiel.
Beiden Serien ist als Ursprung der Zufall/ die Entdeckung

SHADOWGAMES
The fascination with the shadow’s constant change is the driving force, and even more than passively observing and discovering the most diverse cast shadows, it entices one to experiment with natural or artificial light—though… the light is now secondary, for the shadow, the interplay with it… it is the main actor, leading into a creative frenzy, spurring one on, all complemented by reflections and glints.
These three elements—on their own, but above all in their interplay—create three-dimensional-seeming formations on a wall, on a floor, and on a wide variety of materials and surfaces: mixtures of the dynamic and the static.
Chance is also an important aspect; from it, a new interplay suddenly emerges from the incidental, thanks to an alert eye and perspective. The props for this are reassembled on the spot: water vessels, glasses, grids, as well as containers, cups, and hands.
Suddenly, the scene is there—everything is quickly grabbed and tried out: improvisational theater in front of the lens, without a tripod, often with just one hand, all for the sake of staging the shadow anew.
The motif is complete when the spirit of experimentation is captured in the photograph, and to avoid distracting from the essence of the “new” shadow, color is omitted—only black and white—thus supporting the focus on the motif, the structure, and the composition.

Two series are presented here: “Shadowgames Office” and “Shadowgames Ceran.” While the former consists of four sets of four photographs, all of which “evolved” during working hours in the office spaces as the low winter sun streamed through the skylight strips of the former boiler and laundry house (a New Objectivity-style building), the second series, presented here alongside a series of four photographs taken at home on the Ceran cooktop, when the setting sun was still slanting through the kitchen window onto the cooktop.
Both series share a common origin in chance and discovery, and the resulting experimentation—as is the case with other series stemming from my own chronic fascination with shadows.
