🐾🐜 A giant #anteater mother walks through the Brazilian #grasslands with her pup riding on her back for camouflage.

They use powerful claws and a tongue nearly 60cm long to catch up to 30,000 #insects every day. Ant eating is so successful that it evolved at least 12 separate times in different species.

Neera hat mich eben auf den Balkon befohlen.
Wenn sie mit aufgerichtetem Schwanz auf die Balkontür zusteuert weiß ich was ich zu tun habe.
Also sind wir raus. Sie hat alles untersucht und etwas Gras probiert. Ich hab Moos und die unterschiedlichen Gräser und Pflanzen in den Balkonkästen und Neera fotographiert.
Sie hatte wieder ihren verträumten Kittenblick drauf.

Restoring native grasslands

"In western Victoria's volcanic plains there's 0.5 per cent [of native grasslands] left...The picture across much of southern Australia is almost as bleak. Since European settlement, intensive grazing, agricultural practices and urbanisation have all conspired to obliterate native grasslands.Though now protected by environmental laws, conservationists say remnant grasslands are still being destroyed."
