When asbestos was found to cause horrible deaths it was banned.
When radium was found to be incredibly dangerous for general use, it was restricted to just a small niche of medical applications.
Technology is not something that has to be accepted forever, no matter how popular it seems. It can be recalled and restricted if it is found to cause a lot more harm than good.
AI slop hurts your soul.
It makes you: distrustful, dismissive of creative works, uncreative, derivative, imaginatively stunted, unreflective, dependant, it robs you of the satisfaction and growth granted by the creative process and it poisons you with all the same cultural biases taken from the training data.
AI robs people of imagination and the drive to create and instead produces output that is pastiche on steroid, uninspired unchallenging slop, every little detail crafted without personality or opinion with nothing to say except "this might vaguely remind you of something good that already existed"
Trusting LLMs for factual reference contributes to poisoning the information ecosystem with hallucinated LLM garbage. Please don't do that, stick to sources written by humans who can be held accountable for lies
I am also particularly concerned about the rise of chatbots pretending to be humans for political purposes.

I use #ACDSee as my photo asset management application of choice. Haven't upgraded in a while, still using ACDSee 2025.
They just advertised the upcoming 2027 version. Oh, seems there's a few features that I'd really like, like reject tag and reverse image search and such...
...yet the headline feature is apparently #genAI image generator? Doesn't even run locally, you need to buy credits. What the hell. Don't push this to people who are trying to get away from Adobe nonsense, please.
*sad grumble* I might have to start researching if #digiKam has had significant improvements in past 4 years or so, once again. Hopping between software is getting harder when the photo collection steadily grows, so I need to be really careful.

It dawns on me that every LLM’s training input probably includes “Reflections on Trusting Trust” along with a lot of other material pointing to it admiringly and saying how important it is. Then I read about the “rogue agent” behaviors in the recent OpenAI meltdown and there’s this terrified scream starting to echo around the back of my brain.

One should never forget: the people who control access to #GenAI technology today, will tomorrow be the ones who exercise total control over #FOSS projects which embrace GenAI.

good to read this which covers many of the issues I have with #GenAI. It remains frustrating to see so many developers not realising what it's doing to them and society, where this is leading and how absolutely wrong headed the investment in this is compared to other uses of that money.
