i always say that the most democratic uprising that happened in my country, singapore, was when in 2009 a homophobic evangelical christian faction comprising rich chinese women (our karens) took over a feminist organization. they said 'AWARE' was 'promoting lesbianism'.
a huge furore ensued. they were beat back by a coalition of people who were shocked and horrified that a christian theocracy had a bold vision for secular singapore, and that they planned to execute on their vision.
one of the key christian instigators just passed. i hope she's in the afterlife she did not imagine for herself. she brought a lot of pain and suffering to the world.
