🦑 NEW: A #fossil found in #Wyoming three decades ago is now identified as a new #belemnite species, "Wyoteuthis linsterorum", a 160-million-year-old relative of #squid and #octopus.
Its internal shell was unusually wide, suggesting a body nearly 60 cm long, and it belongs to a family thought long extinct. CT scanning of two specimens showed the #animal hunted smaller #cephalopods and possibly its own kind.
