@altbot when I don’t have the spoons to make my content accessible, I don’t post it. If I want an automated image description I can generate it myself. I’m here for the human content for and by humans who care. If those aren’t your values, sure, go ahead and stop having LLMs generate alt text. If, on the other hand, you take this opportunity to reflect on these points, I think we’ll all be better for it.
If a mostly blind user tells me they find my alr-text very hard to use, and they sound angry and rude to me, I may not like their tone, but I imagine how unnerving it must be to face such situations maybe several times a day, for years on end.
It’s like me being angry if, as a woman , I’m constantly interrupted by a man in a meeting, and I no longer feel the obligation to sound nice when I point it out.
I’ve seen it many times here about Black voices not wanting to avoid treading on white toes when they point out racism.
If a visually impaired person here tells me there’s a problem for them with my alt-text, I believe them. Regardless of their tone. Even if I myself thought it was good enough. And I try to find out what it is that they need.
Because if it’s not really accessible for one blind person, chances are there will be more, even if they’re already too frustrated to risk pointing it out.
I know the views of other visually impaired people because of my work. Without exception, they all see the current AI technology as a major advance in accessibility.
At the same time, it is also a great help for me. If I had to write a text that was acceptable to everyone for every post, this account would have died long ago.
I welcome great feedback (like yours) - but the tone makes the music and if I am approached rude from the first moment, I don't feel like having a conversation
Besides, I’m just a fan of good alt-text. And lenghthy descriptions that break an image down to the last pixel aren’t necessarily good, as you’ve pointed out from your experience.

…there is a storytelling aspect to writing descriptions. It doesn’t necessarily make sense to go from left to right describe everything in an image because that might lose the central message or create a disorienting feeling.
