Good news!

The #University of #Amsterdam has also decided to "no longer actively post on #Twitter"!

The news item says: "... we are looking for a suitable alternative."

Let's do our best to convince the university to at least *also* have a presence here on social.edu.nl!

The UvA has decided to no longer actively post on Twitter/X. The UvA account is now ‘dormant’. We will retain the account for possible communication during crisis situations, but at the same time we are looking for a suitable alternative.

The library of university of Groningen @Bibliothecaris reported their experience recently after leaving twitter a year ago and starting on Mastodon. A key for success with the latter was claerly communicating the decision. Their example can serve as a blueprint for any other (academic) organisation.

Perhaps, it would also be helpful to refer to the German universities that have set up Mastodon accounts. @54gradsoftware has programmed a nice list that is updated daily:

and we have created a graph showing the logos of those universities, which also links to the Mastodon accounts
