Farmers in France, and also in India, exercise a lot of poliical power. I don't know of other countries where they are so organized - in many countries international ag snatched the land from under the local farmers with government collusion - e.g., Ukraine, Mexico. The Clinton admin pressured Mexico by de-linking the peso from the dollar and then offered to bail the country out if Salinas de Gortari would break the Constitution to re-alllow foreign owenership....
