They're only private when you physically own and control the media, or when they're E2EE. Hosted Nextcloud doesn't by itself suffice, unfortunately.

@naomibrockwell Yeah, the NextCloud solution is great until… your iOS NextCloud client de-auths every few months and after re-login the auto upload is disabled, you have to configure it again and guess what was the last photo synced and do a boring manual sync.

Yeah, I've been using #nextcloud to upload my photos from my (and my fam's) phones for YEARS, i can't imagine ever sending them to google/apple, what a nightmare!

My favorite part is, when my phone can't reach my nextcloud server it waits, and uploads when it can.

i also overuse the ability to keep my MP3s synced on my phone, because screw using bandwidth to stream. Music in Airplane Mode? ✅
