A photo of Alex Smith, who died at age 26 in 2017 because he couldn't afford insulin. Text below the photo details that he earned $35,000 annually as a restaurant manager, but couldn't afford his health insurance with a high deductible, and his insulin cost $1300 monthly. He rationed his insulin after losing his mother's insurance and died a month later.

Richest country in the world that pillages other, poorer countries for a living, and yet, North Korea has better healthcare and education systems.

@enoch_exe_inc And that’s despite sanctioning them to high heaven for everything from pencils to CT scanners.

@enoch_exe_inc No, healthcare is *not* better in North Korea than in USA.

But in Cuba it is on-par and available. Life expectancy is at 78 years in both countries.

@enoch_exe_inc @alex_mastodon It's exactly the same! All docs are trained in schools in the US or France or countries where medicine is the best... it's not the quality of HC now around the world that's the issue it's ACCESS!!

@enoch_exe_inc @alex_mastodon Still, sanctions against the import of vital medical (and agricultural) supplies and equipment has hampered North Korea’s healthcare system to the point where lifesaving procedures cannot be safely performed in certain months of the year, particularly the winter.

And that’s just…messed up. Look, all technology is dual use. My chair is as good for sitting on as it is for bashing someone over the head. This madness has to stop.

@enoch_exe_inc Really? Because this is usually the point where someone calls me a tankie for daring to look into the reasons why these sanctions even exist.

What I will never understand is that in the US, universal health insurance is a devil's bargain for many.

Here in Germany we have one and he would still be alive and get the insulin he needs.

(even our health insurance is not perfect and you can fall through the cracks, but rarely)

OMG, how can this happen in America?

Because of the likes of #elon 💩 #tRump all the other billionaires and the goddamn private healthcare for profit system we have.

Als Antwort auf Vee

Ya, I know. It's so sad that we have to suffer so a few can be rich.
I wish I could cast a pox on all of those greedy B***ards..😡
