Okay, here is the challenge:

In the future - you live in the US and cannot leave because all your wealth is in your property. Imports and exports are frozen, inflation is higher than it has been in 100 years, the feds have eliminated all support programs, the stock market has crashed and stayed down, you have been laid off and nobody is hiring. 25% of all people are homeless and camping wherever they can. Use the Great Depression as a model.

What do you invest time and labor in now to survive?

I've been doing this for years and will continue: invest in my local regen farmer by buying farm share; invest time in building connections with folks near and far; building resiliency into my body with healthier foods, exercise, and whatever vaccines are still available; shopping local, esp the food coop (and now credit union); following the buyarchy of needs to get closer to circular economy; investing in my (now adult) kids education and emotional and physical resiliency.

I should add that I already have solar, EVs, heat pump, home battery backup (plus a way to plug the car into the heat pump). I've tricked out the house as much as reasonable. If/when we move, I'll work on getting a smaller place that uses less energy and get more solar.
