Finally, our crew is making progress towards adding more machines to the datacenter. The redundancy will allow us to minimize downtime.

If you want to follow the progress or even help us with your #hardware / #sysadmin expertise, check out codeberg.org/Codeberg-Infrastr…

Just saying: We also accept hardware donations for server SSDs, nvme PCIe riser cards or network cards / cables 😀

care to do an Amazon wishlist or something like that? Happy to donate something.

@nik Not necessarily. But when we reboot our server, we can't even serve an error message. And scaling CI/CD and storage and replicating the database has some benefits even with single-instance Forgejo.

Forgejo can be run with multiple instances, but some caveats apply, and we expect to run into a lot of scaling issues when we start this experiment.

I wish I had more time available to apply my sysadmin skills. Small tip: I believe let's encrypt has asked people to set their timers to sometime during the night, and not exactly at midnight, to prevent being ddos'ed. Please see: go-acme.github.io/lego/usage/c…

wait what

codeberg is hosted on dedicated hardware in a data center now?

@hexaheximal We've been for a while: blog.codeberg.org/codeberg-is-…

We still have two virtual servers for various stuff, but the primary services are located on one single server.

Als Antwort auf Codeberg.org

wait, you guy run on a singular server for all this time ? quite impressive!
Als Antwort auf Krafting

@krafting Unfortunately, yes. We have some virtual servers for various other services, but the primary is located on a single machine, mostly because the human resources were stretched thin and the project to build redundancy stalled for a while.
Als Antwort auf Codeberg.org

Well, that's still pretty impressive yeah!
Thinking of the 15 dell R730xd we threw away a few days ago at work... If only we could give them to projects like you...
Als Antwort auf Krafting

@krafting If there is more hardware to be scrapped, we can probably issue donation receipts. But we'd need to consider if the shipping costs are acceptable.
Als Antwort auf Codeberg.org

I'll talk about it with my team, maybe we can arrange something someday, but I don't have much hope ^^'

Also, where are you located to receive this kind of donation ? what country ?

@krafting Berlin, Germany. Some other cities in Germany could also work and IIRC the Forgejo team has once set up a physical machine in Paris, too.

You could also contact disroot.org/de in the Netherlands and ask them if they were interested.
