@VeroniqueB99

A good friend of mine chose palliative care over treatment so his wife and kid could keep their house.

@Vee

For people outside the US, this is a classic example and by no means a rarity.

It doesn't even take an illness. Simple unemployment and health insurance will drain your retirement savings in a heartbeat.

Florida unemployment benefits 2023+2024: Total of $3,300 over 12 weeks. ($1,100/month)
My 2020 COBRA (when you are unemployed, you can choose to continue your health/dental/vision insurance at cost) was $1,500/month. So UI didn't even cover the cost of my insurance, let alone rent, car, food, etc, etc.

The other day someone posted that they loved US insurance because it had paid 95% of their mother's $900,000 annual bill for 10 years.

Except:
1. The $900,000 will be a massive overestimate - insurance companies make up numbers and don't pay that at all.
2. They've paid $450,000 *just to stay alive* and the insurance industry has gaslit them so much they're grateful.

@tony 👍 Most Americans are completely oblivious to their lack of standard of living because they've been brainwashed that 'the greatest country in the world' uberalles... it's high time they smell the coffee... and IF Poilievre is elected in Canada.... the world is 100% screwed. Fascism will rule.

For Canadians feeling smug about our Universal #Healthcare - we have to prepare to fight to keep and improve it. An old rant on what could happen in Canada.
Universal Healthcare is not enshrined as a right in our Charter of Rights. That should be corrected by our Federal government to put a huge, hopefully insurmountable barrier in front of corporations.

Careful with that. We have our own mini-me version of Trump in the form of Pierre Poilievre, a 'conservative' who is almost certain be elected with a majority because "woke".

@clintruin @michelin oh noo… Canada was my last hope. Europe will be governed completely by fascist in only few years.

What should be terrifying to Canadians is that PoiLIEvre will be in power alongside Trump, who has recently called us the 51st state. With roughly 20 percent of the country being traitorous assholes who want to join the States, I fear--deeply--for Canadian sovereignty.

And for Canadians:
WHEN we are taken over by the US it will be because the Canadian people ask for it, and they'll ask for it because they will be choreographed to ask for it.

But they will.

@leonid @clintruin @michelin there are a few countries still resisting, New Zeland, France among others.... but as a whole the entire world is shifting right....
