Good morning to readers, #Kyiv remains in Ukrainian hands.
Sucking up to #Trump, who views friendship as leverage, won't work.
Standing up to a bully may be uncomfortable but firmly extracting security guarantees and denying him an easy victory is the only option.

After all, Trump only respects dictators.
I’ve become increasingly frustrated with the school of thought that Ukrainians need to grovel and beg before #Trump to get anything done.
Here’s the logic of that analysis:
Trump will be Trump, he’s the unchangeable, static, man in stone. He is responsible for nothing, and should be allowed to get away with absolutely anything.

Every other actor must fall in line to get anything accomplished.
This logic was on full display when a Ukrainian lawmaker nominated Trump for the Nobel peace prize late last year, in a misguided attempt to curry favor.
Here’s the problem with that line of thinking:
It won’t work, he won’t buy it, it will be unnecessarily humiliating, and those who do it will be screwed over anyways.

And those who follow that advice are often on the receiving end of a tariff or diplomatic insult regardless.
He views friendship as leverage.
NATO allies have fought and died alongside American troops?
That’s not a partnership forged in blood — that’s a chump who should pay up.
