My partner and I visited Norway and hiked (a surprisingly short hike) to a place called Litlefjellet -This was the view!
Litlefjellet, Norwegian for ‘Little Mountain’, is the name of the center mountain. Plus, we found the iconic pond that perfectly reflects the whole scene.

Please enjoy this ridiculous thing I made for my new bathroom. My self-assigned brief was:

- Store bulk toilet roll in that convenient space over the cistern,
- In a way where you can easily grab a new roll from sitting on the toilet,
- Without risk of toilet roll avalanches when you do so.

It's a dispenser loaded from top, with a sloped bottom that leads down to a hole at the bottom corner to take one roll at a time.

It is not neat or polished but it DOES work.

A narrow alcove above a toilet cistern and below a window. Perfectly fitted in the alcove is a wooden box with a slatted front, filled with toilet rolls. There's a square opening at one bottom corner of the box which is just big enough for a single roll to be removed at a time, and the bottom is sloped so the others roll down towards the opening.

Schön war es gestern im #Wald beim #vhsdresden Kurs Spielzeugbau. Die Sonne zwinkerte zwischen den Bäumen hervor, das Wasser plätscherte, die Kids schnitzten oder spielten mit ihren selbst gebauten Sachen. Es enstanden ganz eigenwillige Dinge nebst Zwergen, Schwirrhölzern und Brummern. Selbst ein provisorischer Löffel wurde angefertigt und benutzt.

Spielzeugbau im Wald steht auch für #Kindergeburtstag und andere #Natur-Werk-Anlässe, #Schule und und #Kita in #Dresden zur Verfügung.

Zwei Hände halten einen keulenartigen Gegenstand nach oben. Der Griff ist ein Ast, die Keule besteht aus Moos und Waldboden. Hinten ist Wald zu sehen und eine kleine Menschengruppe beim schnitzen.
Aus eine Schale mit Nudeln werden mit einem dicken, selbstgeschnitzten Holzlöffel die Nudeln ausgelöffelt.
Ein Ast wird gespalten, so dass ein Brettchen entsteht. Man sieht, wie eine auf den Waldboden sitzende Person einen Holzkeil in den Ast treibt.
Eine blau Plane, darauf liegt ein Ast. Durch ein Loch am Stabende führt ein Strick, an dessen Ende jeweils zwei Hölzchen quer festgebunden sind.

I'm sure I'm not the first person to think of this. I'm repairing a table and only had one sash clamp that fit. Was about to head to the tool shop to buy more, but then thought up this One Weird Trick that Big Sash Clamp doesn't want you to know. #DIY #IMadeAThing #woodworking

Collage aus vier Bildern einer Wandgarderobe aus Holz in Form eines seitlich an der Wand befestigten Wikingerschiffes. Vorn ist ein handgeschnitzter und bemalter Drache als Galionsfigur, ähnlich wie bei dem Wikingerschiff, welches bei Oseberg in Norwegen gefunden wurde. Das Schiff hat an der Reling aufgesteckte und blau-silbern bemalte Schilde sowie ein aufgebläht aussehendes Segel aus rot-blauem Stoff. Unten in der Seite des Schiffs ist eine Öffnung, wo sich Kleiderbügel mit Jacken einhängen lassen.

Unterwasserschiff Backbord achtern eines geklinkerten Kutters. Grau über Wasser, Schwarz darunter. In der Planke direkt unterm Wasserpass ist ein Riss fingerdick ausgefräst.
Gleiche Stelle, eine Leiste aus Lärche ist eingepasst und probeweise eingesetzt.

There it is! My own #Gesellenkiste :ablobcatattention: A miniature #SeaChest, copy of an antique from an extinct shipyard: Howaldtswerke #Hamburg. I believe it's from their apprentice shop. One of many in the course of apprentices becoming journeymen.

Mistakes were made. Lessons were learned. Crimes were hidden, as Adam Savage would say. Just needs finish.

Oh, and hinges. And beckets. #Metalworking and #fancywork! But that will have to wait a bit. Stay tuned, I guess.

The original stacked on top of the old chest.
The new chest stood next to the original. I managed to get the size and proportions almost completely correct. Only the height is missing a couple millimeters, on account of not adding enough extra material to plane the bevel on the top and bottom edge.
The finished (still unfinished, ie raw wood) chest on the workbench, among various handtools. It is a miniature of a classic sea chest: proud bottom on runners, rectangular planar section, sides as well as front and back slope inwards, wooden chocks for fancywork beckets on the sides, flat panel overhanging lid. The wood is planed and scraped smooth, and has a lovely light blonde color with more creamy brown growth rings. It's reclaimed pitch pine flooring, all slash sawn with flat grain, but so was the original, and that's held up perfectly for close on a hundred years. A few bits of quartersawn larch for flavor.
