I fill out my #vinyl with #SecondHand #records. One day I was talking to the owner (Outdoor market record store) if he had a copy of Dexterâs first album from the #FlatDuoJets? He didnât and the talk went to Australian Rock-A-Billy and the fact that in the 70s Dutch tourists scooped up all the records of Australian vinyl; Meaning there are none left. Limited market and the fact they were never re-pressed and as rare as hens teeth.

Rory Gallagher - Live (generally known as Live In Europe)
On what would have been Rory's 78th birthday, it seems appropriate to play this, the first album of his I bought.
I'd just seen him do two sets at the Great Western Express festival near Lincoln in May 1972. As I remember, I bought the album from the very young Virgin Records, when it was a cut price mail order company taking out full page ads in the Melody Maker and other music press.
It's a US pressing, and in remarkably good nick considering the almost constant playing it got from me as a 17 year old.

Eef Barzelay present six acoustic covers of Journey songs. I love his voice and his interpretations. This was definitely a âsupport the artists you like by buying their stuffâ purchase. The Bobby Charles Quartet (Fenton 2026, 1966).
Fenton Records was a mid-60s vanity label that released a bunch of 45s by teenage garage bands from West Michigan. This is not that. Itâs goofy lounge music and as far as I know itâs Fentonâs only LP.

Cat Mother and the All Night Newsboys: The Street Giveth and the Street Taketh Away (Polydor 24-4001, 1969).
This is pretty generic 1969 white boy boogie but Lester Bangs reviewed it favorably for Rolling Stone so I picked it up when I saw it cheap. Bangs lumped them in with ânon-innovative, journeymen groups [who] donât feel compelled to try so hardâ but to him that was a compliment. I bet he never played it again after writing it up. I wonât either.

J.J. Cale: Naturally (Shelter SR-2122, 1974 pressing).
Hearing J.J. Cale for the first time back in college made me realize what an overrated fraud Clapton is. Cale is a quietly soulful singer and guitarist and a sophisticated songwriter. His âAfter Midnightâ is so good it makes you hate Clapton even more.

I was way into JSBX in 1996 and this was Russell Siminsâ band with Miho and Yuka from Cibo Matto. It sounds exactly how youâd expect (chaotic) and I donât think Iâve listened to it in 30 years. Pretty fun.
