The alarm went off at 6:30.
Christel and I got up, got ready, and then she headed to work while I grabbed my camera gear and drove to the Loonse and Drunese Duinen.
I wasn't expecting this.
Once I reached the open plains, the mist was only knee-high in some places. Elsewhere, it rose almost as high as the trees, turning the landscape into something that felt completely different from the dunes I know.
The sun was just beginning to rise when I climbed a sand dune and looked out across the treetops.
Below me, an old tree was almost completely buried in the sand, with only its uppermost part still visible. The surrounding leaves formed a natural frame in the upper right, while the dune filled the lower part of the image.
And in between: layers of treetops and mist, leading the eye towards a tiny orange sun hanging in the dark blue morning sky.
Sometimes you leave home without knowing what you'll photograph.
And then the landscape gives you something.
This morning, it gave me a little piece of magic. Taken with the Canon 5D mark 4
