ICYMI: In-N-Out: A quintessential view of Southern California.
We dropped someone off at LAX and stopped at the In-N-Out Burger right at the edge of the north runway. It's a perfect place to photograph planes landing, they are only a couple of hundred feet off the ground. "Ancient Towers" for #SaturdayScenery
This desert slot canyon is in the Carrizo Badlands, some 1.5 hours east of San Diego (and then about an hour of hiking with some scrambling).
Ironically, it is also cooler there today than it is in San Diego. 🥴 That the desert is cooler than the coastal areas and inland areas west of the mountains is not uncommon when we have Santa Ana weather, but it's certainly quite extreme at the moment...

Coyote Thistle for #ThistleThursday due to the common name... but this plant is actually in the Apiaceae family, while thistles belong to the Asteraceae 🤪
The scientific name is Eryngium aristulatum var. parishii and another common name is San Diego Button Celery.
This is a rare/endangered native plant, due to limited distribution and habitat loss. It grows in vernal pools, of which >90% in San Diego have been lost due to development.
