Hati makes him feel safe. She relaxes him. Their friendship is one of my favorite things to write. They're so sweet together, so sassy with one another, and also so protective as well. She's a werewolf, he's a vampire, and *everything* about it so utterly taboo and frowned upon but neither of them care. Friends are friends. They don't care.

Alistair and Fenella are old friends, were once lovers, and were both sired by the same vampire, one called Isma. They're actually the same age, give or take a few years, and they've been through the highs and lows of vampiric life together. Their relationship is strained, to say the least, but they're the best of friends as well. He's still in love with her, and she seems to be unaware of that fact. It's an *important* relationship to the story considering this is a Paranormal Romance tale.

If I had to venture a guess, it's probably Eleanor. She's one of the SCs. She has worked at Dorcha Castle for ages, is on the shorter side with red hair and a big smile, and is in her sixties. Being the eldest maid, she's the mother figure of the entire cast (and yes, that also includes Fenella and Alistair). She knows the castle like the back of her her hand, is so good at her work, and always takes precautions to keep everyone safe. On another note, she's also entirely too skilled at reading individuals, isn't afraid of the supernatural, and has the biggest heart. She might might be a tiny bit in love with Jonathan (another servant) as well, but that's neither here nor here. She's cautious in her own way with him, not wanting to get her heart broken, but we'll get around to that later. (Oops! Spoilers!)

He does have enough money, and everything is exactly as he wants it. His room is decorated in shades of blue, and he spares no expense when it comes to his comfort (or the comfort of his servants). There's a beautiful closet, a dresser, a gorgeous bed, a nook to read in, etc. He also has a coffin in the corner, which is just as plush and cozy as the bed is as well.
And before you ask, there is *one* mirror as well. Vampires cannot be seen at all. Unlike in other tales, however, their clothes CAN be seen. You just can't see their skin and their own body. I never understood why their clothing suddenly disappears as well. I wanted to write something *different* for my readers.

Although it's the Victorian era, Alistair was born much earlier. He was a child in the 1600s, and that time period in Scotland was marked by significant political, religious, and social changes. He had a good childhood and young adulthood but the area where he grew up in went through a lot of change (meaning both good and bad things occurring), and it helped him to grow and become a better person because of that evolution the land went through. But all in all, yes, it was a good childhood. He was still human and a mortal, after all. He thinks back on those days fondly, despite the unrest in the country.

The are the old world vampires and the new world ones. Alistair was born in the 1600s, same as Fenella, and although Duncan's actual age is unknown, it's estimated that he was in his thirties when he was turned and Alistair brought him into the blood late in 1673.
