Tectonic Wall
A pretty famous geotope in the Allgäuer Alps with extreme folds and layering. The hundreds of meters thick top layer of mostly Dolomite belongs to the Lech valley thrust sheet (215 million years old) which got pushed above the Allgäu sheet below (190 million years old, here mostly covered by overgrown talus fields) and Radiolarite from the Ruhpolding formation even further below (160 million years old and originally 2000 meter below sea level — hard to imagine!).

After He's Gone.
(Chosen for #TextureTuesday, but also as addendum for the recent #WorldDayOfGlaciers...)
"He" is referring here to the Gepatschferner (masculine in German), one of the once largest glaciers in the central Alps (and still Austria's 2nd largest), but so severely reduced by now and for at least 10 years the fastest shrinking glacier in Austria, losing up to ~120 meters (360 feet) per year!
Walking in terrain like this is an incredibly moving experience, even if visually stunning!

A machine cut into the rock, bit off a slice, spat it out and left, leaving pyramids and flowers behind.
I discovered this surreal place accidentally. The rock looks like a giant cake, the slabs tower on top of each other as if aliens had been building a tower in the middle of the wilderness but then abandoned the site. Wild daffodils grow from cracks and ridges in such quantities as if an ancient god was passing by and sneezing flowers.
The place also inspired me to write this tanka (a Japanese poetry style):
Biting into rocks
Helping itself to a slice
Letting go, leaving
Daffodils blossom in peace
A failed stab at destruction
