"I haven't heard about you before"

okay skill issue. I've been running since November. I can't make people care about their own election

(My signing onto the ACLU of Oregon's Freedom Pledge demonstrates my commitment to democracy, civil liberties, and civil rights, but it is not an organizational endorsement as the ACLU of Oregon does not endorse candidates for office.)

I am pleased to announce I have signed @aclu_or's Freedom Pledge.

Signing this pledge means I will always work to advance policy rooted in expanding or protecting Constitutional, Immigrant and Refugee, Personal Autonomy, First Amendment, Civil, Homeless, and Privacy Rights while fighting federal abuses of power and promoting public safety.

On this day last year, after a sleepless night spent on the beach fearing the unusually high tide, I rounded Hug Point and witnessed one of the most beautiful beach scenes I've ever been lucky enough to see.

I'm not leftist like I'm a liberal who wants universal healthcare and higher minimum wage. I'm leftist like I think workers should own the means of production and housing is a human right not a commodity.

How will I listen to the people?

I will have an elders council, youth council, and labor council. They will be community-appointed. And as far as I am allowed by law, I will divest some of the power of the Governor and invest it in those councils.

I will also reappropriate budgeting and apply it to those serving on commissions and boards across the state, providing a stipend for their efforts. This boosts local economies and diversifies who can provide time.

Okay, I know the Scaup suspense is killing everyone! I think this is a Lesser Scaup, based on the narrow size and shape of the black 'nail' of the bill, seen head-on.

However, I'm sure that she is a big deal in her own heart.

Also she is still a #LiferBird for me!

Just realized I should include a photo in case there are some expert Scaup-spotters longing to play Name That Scaup!

Incidentally, I send no regards to Audubon magazine online for their article about telling the difference...only between male Greater and Lesser Scaups, which also doesn't work on mobile. They have deserved no such attention.

This makes me so happy. I knew coyotes were around, but this is my first direct evidence of them on the farm. I hope you stay and get fat on mice and moles, my friend. You are most welcome.
(I hope you can see the look back at the end at this resolution.)

A pale gold apparition, lucid as morning light, slips from the can—Portland Cider Company’s Pear Lychee, revealing itself like a quiet omen.

On the first slow spiral, the air opens: orchard whispers of pear drift into soft florals—rose petals pressed between pages—touched by grape skin, white peach flesh, and a glimmer of honeyed sunlight.

Then, the sip: a gentle unfolding. Pear leads the procession, followed by blooming florals and tender white peach, all rooted in the memory of orchard fruit. The body rests in a medium weight, warmed faintly by spirit, before dissolving into a lingering sweetness—soft, inevitable, like the last note of a dream you almost remember.

Happy Spring ya'll!

There was nobody there to muddy the waters.

Well, I was there, but I wasn't about to toss a rock in that pristine turquoise lake. Rather, I was content to walk along the banks and idly watch the sunshine dance across the water's surface.

It sparkled. Not like diamonds, but like something better: like sunshine dancing across the water's surface.

It's been too long since I visited the Oregon coast, but I'm sure it will be waiting for me, on that magical section of Route 101 that has some of the (many, *many*!) best views of a sunset out world has to offer...this "Sentinel of the Sea".

Captured near Gold Beach, July 2025.

When I planned to travel the state using just my own resources, I'll admit I didn't foresee gas prices being this high. I figured we had longer before this jackass admin fully tanked our economy.

I'll still be around but my plans have to adjust according to the world around us.

I know that other people have been here before, and if I stay here long enough surely someone will wander through and by.

But for now, I have this quiet, secluded spot all to myself, so I'll just poke around the driftwood and the sand, look out to sea, breathe deep, and completely immerse myself in peace.
