Because everyone needs more aurora pictures, right? Two nights ago was actually the first time I've ever seen the aurora. This shot features my Subaru Forester on a ranch road in Harding County, New Mexico, an area with incredibly dark skies, but also an area that rarely gets the aurora. My favorite shot ended up being this one with the interior lights on in the car. C/2025 A6 (Lemmon) from Southern Nevada. I'm tooting this for reference if you are thinking about trying to photograph the comet in the coming days. This is an uncropped image from a full-frame camera with a 90mm f/2.8 prime, 8sec, ISO1600. Also of note, all of the f%^king satellites. The phone brightened up the picture considerably. To my eyes, the sky is quite dark with a lot of stars. Off towards the south you can see a bit of a glow in the sky from city light. Up close everything is just dark and quiet. In the pic, you can see the silhouette of the #apple tree on my left and the #cornfields in the foreground with #hills and #trees in the mid ground and peeking over those hills is the lights of Alliston.

A breathtaking view of the Milky Way stretches across the night sky above James Island, La Push, Washington state and over the calm waters of the Pacific Ocean, as seen from Rialto Beach. James Island (called A-ka-lat in the Quileute language, meaning "Top of the Rock") is a small island located right at the mouth of the Quillayute River. In 1966, the United States Department of the Interior gave the island back to the Quileute people. It was recognized as part of their historic Quileute Indian Reservation and no people outside of the Quileute tribe are allowed on the island. The stars sparkled brilliantly on that moonless night, set against a tranquil and serene seascape that captured the majesty of nature. Subtle lights of La Push on the horizon added a sense of depth and mystery to the scene on August 22, 2025. Single exposure image.
