DR 650 SE lost some performance, and seemed a bit uncomfortable idling. Upon inspection I found a missing shim in an exhaust connection foomfing every stroke, and when I went to replace it came across a crack in the pipe where the mount was fused to it (I didn't wipe out, you wiped out)

I welded it shut, replaced the shim and OH MY I can't keep the front wheel on the ground now.

I think I hate my motorcycle.

Don't get me wrong - I love it too. It's scary fast for an old guy like me, it's fun to ride,

But it's an adventure bike, and everything on it is made out of cheap fragile plastic. Hit a branch? That's two pieces at $200 each. Lay it down in the mud? That's four pieces. I figure I'm putting about $1/km of _repairs_ into it, beyond maintenance.

Knuckle guards can't withstand small branches. Honestly, probably can't withstand a halfhearted smack from your four-year-old niece.

Trim? Plastic with plastic threads that strip autonomously. Worst of all, as mentioned above, any tiny bit of damage destroys 2-4 parts. At a cost of $200/per.

I mean, I get lightweight (REALLY!) on a motorcycle, but they could have added 5-10kg and made this three times as tough.

Oh, except for the tension bolt - the second hardest thing on the bike, and can't be accessed with a wrench. You're gonna need a 27mm socket.

The hardest part of the bike is, of course, the saddle.

I noticed something in my tyre when I was getting back on my bike after the gym. Decided to ride home with it in the tyre and then get it out at home.

It looks like a specifically designed type puncturing throwing star 😀 Too rigid to bend, but the tyre is still inflated and it hasn't left a mark.

Hello! I'm from #Chicago and do nerdy stuff. I primarily identify as #genderfluid, #nonbinary, and #trans. Most people use they/them pronouns for me, but I'm also cool with she or he contextually.

My work right now is primarily #DevOps stuff relating to #Kubernetes and various cloudy things. I've been doing this long enough to remember when our servers were named after Greek gods and you used a label maker to show that off.

I practice #polyamory and try to avoid hierarchy or prescribed models in my relationships in general. I'm unapologetically #bisexual with some admittedly #sapphic bias.

In the summer you might find me on my #motorcycle enjoying the precious few months we can actually enjoy it. I love cross-country road trips and #camping.

I also run the Chicago Pink Pistols chapter. We're a charity that helps #lgbtq and #transgender people specifically learn about #firearms safety. You may see me post about #guns on a fairly regular basis.

Tip from todays motorcycling trip in 40°C heat:
If you wear motorcycling Jeans (or other pants that will absorb water I guess) and you make them wet, this will cool you for roughly 15 minutes

Honestly I'd love it if punters read the fucking god given manual that comes with the bike, but honestly that seems a bit much to ask.

The legendary FZ750. It started being produced around 1977 and the last one made was in 1991.

This one is somewhat beaten, in need of extra love, even so, she is gorgeous.

I own an out-of-production foreign #motorcycle. I defy anyone to explain how a tariff on foreign-sourced NOS parts for it helps me, my country, or any business.

It wasn’t a big enough market for the importer to set up local sourcing even when it was in production. No American company is going to set up an injection molding operation just to make a dozen #Ural tail light lenses a year. #stupid #ProtectionismIsDumb (1/2)
