Ich beginne den Tag mit einem Zitat von Tyler Durden aus dem Film "Fight Club":
Du bist nicht dein Job. Du bist nicht dein Geld auf dem Konto. Du bist nicht das Auto, dass du fährst. Du bist nicht der Inhalt deiner Brieftasche.
Warum? Weil ich mich in letzter Zeit wieder öfter dabei erwische, dass ich mir Gedanken darüber mache, ob es okay ist diese oder jene Software zu nutzen.
Natürlich gibt es eine Menge Vorteile, wenn du #Linux, #OpenSourceSoftware, usw. nutzt. Wenn du dich aus irgendeinem Grund aber für etwas anderes entscheidest (z.B. die am PC spielenden Personen für #Windows) ist es am Ende auch okay. Auch mit #Windows oder #macOS oder #Obsidian können gute Dinge vollbracht werden 😉
Es kommt darauf an, was du damit machst!
Since the last #macos update
- Mail.app doesn’t show the email count for each mailbox
- Spotlight cannot find any app (it shows Terminal in the list and when I type “t” it shows no results)
- my BeyerDynamic speaker doesn’t work with FaceTime (but with Zoom, Slack and Teams)
I use four applications on a regular basis, three ship with the OS, and this thing is annoying to use to broken.
MacOS Mail app — viewing messages sorted by date. Mail randomly throws a message 3 or 4 days old to the top of the chron list where it does not belong. Click to sort by something else, then back to date, and it's gone. This is apparently intended to nudge you to follow up on a message that has not received a reply. Problem is, it still happens with Follow Up Suggestions deselected.
Being a total network and *nix noob I decided to try and install Ubuntu server with Adguard Home.
It now runs in a Parallels Virtual machine on my Mac Mini M1 file server and it WORKS AMAZINGLY!
It feels much snappier compared to using Ublock Original Lite extension on Chrome.
I am super satisfied! 🙌

#macOS Safari seems to have some funny problem with the address bar.
Steps to reproduce: run Safari for a day, create a new tab and start typing in the address bar.
Oh snap! Since when did "Fill code from Messages" start working in 3rd party browsers on Mac!?

Just installed Dev beta 3 for macOS 26.1. It appears that Apple's course correcting the Liquid Glass look with improved readability and contrast. It looks like the Accessibility settings are "ON" now, even though they are clearly not.
(I checked to make sure Accessibility > Display > Increase Contrast and Reduce Transparency were off.)
Just spend two hours trying to find out what was making my macbook's UI super laggy..
No processes with high CPU usage or anything but the UI was just molasses, hovering over various apps in the Dock took seconds to show the name popup..
Turns out it was #Bartender 6.1's beta - close it and everything is buttery smoooth again.
Thankfully I didn't need the 6.1 beta as I'm not on #macOS26 and I do not plan to go there in the foreseeable future.
Bartender 5.5 is a sturdy workhorse and has none of those issues.
I open a Word doc in my OD folder.
It doesn't open the local copy, it opens the file stored in OD.
I save the file. Again, it doesn't save the file locally, it saves into OD.
It's supposed to then sync back to my computer, but it's just… not. No errors, no explanations, just not syncing.
I need to upload the updated file into a web app, but I can't, because the local copy is the old version from before I modified it.

Last week or so I finally upgraded from Sonoma to Sequoia and installed Apple Intelligence. Some thoughts about it.
#macOS conundrum: The modern window UI dramatically reduced the clickable real estate in many apps for moving windows; we need to be more deliberate about where to click, so it takes a little more time. My example here is Safari, to the right of the search bar.
On the plus side, this also cuts down on wasted space in our apps. The old wide, empty window title bar was easier to click and drag, but it was otherwise wasted space. And how often do we move windows anyway? #Apple

Eg,
1. [command space] (opens Spotlight)
2. saf (I've used this for Safari for years)
3. first result is “Safari . app from iPhone”
4. [enter] (muscle memory habit)
5. opens iPhone Mirroring to open Safari on my phone
Is a #macOS app allowed to bundle its own Ruby inside of the app?
If so, is it allowed to be in the App Store with a Ruby inside of it?
E.g., TextMate has Ruby scripts in the app. It brings its own Ruby (1.8?) or you can set a path to a Ruby. Could TextMate do that an be in the App Store?
GrapheneOS has a "duress password" - which wipes the device if entered.
Is there a way to do this on MacOS or OpenBSD or Linux?

ich suche nach einem neuen Job als #iOS und/oder #macOS Entwickler. Ich spreche #ObjectiveC, #Swift (auch Server-Side) und #SwiftUI und nutze die ganzen Tools drumherum (#Xcode, #Git, #GitHub, #GitHubActions, #ShellScripting etc.). Ich bringe 30 Jahre Berufserfahrung als Software-Entwickler mit, davon knapp 20 im #Apple Ökosystem.

Die Suche nach einem #iOS und/oder #macOS #Developer Job scheint momentan echt aussichtslos. Von daher versuch ich es einfach mal im #Backend.
Also, wenn jemand jemanden kennt, der jemanden kennt, der einen Job als Backend-Entwickler zu vergeben hat, ich bin fuer eine Remote-Festanstellung bereit. #Swift kann ich, #GoLang oder #Rust wuerde ich lernen muessen (und wollen!). Aber bitte *kein* Java.

So, mal eine #Frage an die deutschsprachigen User hier.
Ich biete seit 2011 als #Freelancer Auftragsarbeiten an - Apps, alles was mit programmieren zu tun hat etc.
Jetzt ist es 2025 und ich darf mich mit der #eRechnung/ #xrechnung und co. prügeln.
Mein Problem: ich habe Max 2-3 Rechnungen im Jahr zu stellen und habe dafür bisher keine extra Buchhaltungssoftware benötig.
Alles was es auf dem Markt gib läuft aber heutzutage offenbar als Abo und das im Bereich von 80€/Jahr aufwärts (teils > 100€/Jahr wenn man XRechnung / #ZUGFeRD braucht).
Kann jemand eine gute, für #macOS verfügbare Rechnungssoftware empfehlen die mir nicht die Haare vom Kopf frisst nur damit ich 3x im Jahr eine Rechnung schreiben bzw. eRechnungen empfangen kann?
Oh well, #Spotlight in #macOS 26 still cannot work with a NAS or a full file server. At all.
