Thanks to the great work done by @wrenix, @valpackett, and many others (certainly not me), I've finally gotten calls working on my Fairphone 5.
While there's some kinks left to be ironed out, call quality is excellent out of the box (certainly better than my PinePhone (Pro)).
I've pushed a `linux-sc7280-calls` kernel to my arch repo for anyone who wants to try it. The following PR discussion should help set it all up:

Apart from supported devices, what are the deciding factors to choose between @mobian and @postmarketOS ?
Building for Mobian is easy in docker (we use tangled.org/me.webbeef.org/bea…), not sure if pmbootstrap is also usable in CI? Ideally we would create updatable images with cage (github.com/cage-kiosk/cage) as the wayland compositor and Beaver as the user environment.

We've switched to Plymouth for displaying the boot splash! This allows screen rotation to work, and to toggle between splash and boot logs by pressing ESC on devices with a keyboard, or the power button 🔌 on phones and tablets.

Are there any smartwatches comparable to the Apple Watches out there (heart rate, waterproof, cool watch faces, gay watchbands, plus maybe those heart illnesses detecting stuff, maybe blood oxygen and ecg too and maybe depth sensors for diving like the ultras if it’s not too much to ask) that either work independently from phones (no app needed) or at least work with an app that can be easily installed in any android device (more specifically that can work in an ungoogled Waydroid container on postmarketOS)?
I keep wondering what I’ll use instead of my Apple Watch if I move to a postmarketOS phone…

Yesterday I fixed the Fairphone 5 audio on my Archlinux system, just for myself (afaik I'm the only user of my FP5 stuff).
Within that day, @wrenix submitted a pmOS patch and 3 separate people already approved it (with Luca not even being one of them).
@FestplattenSchnitzel even ported the fix to the FP4 and tested it.
PostmarketOS might not be able to win me over from Arch with their software, but the community they managed to build is impressive.
Linux 7.0 has now been tagged, coming with 19 commits upstreamed from the Librem 5 tree - two by NXP and the rest by yours truly on behalf of @purism. Three more are already queued for 7.1.
While the mainline kernel still can't drive the display without extra patches, it's very close now 👀

Speech input is one of the missing features in #Phosh's stevia. I had looked at several possible solutions but didn't want to pull in a ton more dependencies into stevia itself.
While looking for something completely different I stumbled onto #vosk-server which runs fully locally but can be talked to via websocket and so I could punch that into the prototype I had already alying around (video has audio):
New finance blog post is up, nerding out over the 2025 budget (plan vs. execution), and the budget for 2026.
The most exciting part is probably the q6voice rework and mainlining which will improve audio significantly for postmarketOS and other Linux Mobile distributions on a large number of QC devices.

A little preview of the multi-engine behavior in Kumo:
To quickly try out a website in a different engine, you can just reload it in WebKit/Servo through the context menu.
Kumo will remember which engine was last used for a domain and use that engine for all new tabs for that domain going forward. That way if you're interested in a new browser engine, you can transition one website at a time, rather than requiring a complete browser change.
Spring is approaching, and so is the next #BoilingTheOcean 🌿

Just released a new version of Catacomb & Epitaph.
Catacomb's main changes are the automatic calculation of a device's scale and the ability to define deadzones for devices with rounded corners and camera cutouts.
Epitaph now allows full configuration of its modules based on device orientation, which should also help with devices that have cutouts.
